Who we are

The Herts Patient Engagement Platform was created in early 2026 from two long standing patient voice groups, the Herts and West Essex (HWE) ICB Patient Engagement Forum (PEF) and the HWE Quality Patient Group (QPG). The QPG also includes the Patient Safety Partners (PSPs) for the region. The PEP total membership is growing and has about 30 current members. They bring a crucial depth of knowledge and experience of the NHS as well as a wide range of expertise from business, research, manufacturing and the public sectors.

PEP is organised to gather the patient voice from primary care via GP Practice Participation Groups (PPGs), from secondary care via patient panels and committee membership, involvement with neighbourhood community groups and from region wide surveys. This patient voice, the ‘vital customer feedback’, is then shared with the NHS via membership of Continuous Improvement Project Teams, Patient Safety Meetings, Neighbourhood Teams and the ICB.

The PEP has stated its objective as follows

To deliver the voice of the patient systematically and with analysis, ensure it is heard by the NHS and to work with patients and the NHS to deliver healthcare improvements.’

To further develop our network of patient voices we have created this Patient Engagement Platform Website ( thepatientengagementplatform.org.uk) to support patient groups with insight into healthcare issues and improving communication to and from the NHS.

The PEP is currently involved in an extensive list of healthcare improvement projects e.g.

• Reducing ‘Did Not Attends’, (DNAs) in Primary Care

• Hospital at Home

• Blood Pressure Measurement in the Community

• Falls & Frailty

• Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Testing in Herts.

• Advice & Guidance

• Structured Medicine Reviews/Polypharmacy

And has plans to support

• Unsafe Hospital Discharge

• 5S surveys
